Our Early Years Practitioners put together an exciting programme of events for the Nursery’s STEM fortnight. Here, Mrs Jamieson tells us more about what they got up to!

‘The transition children visited the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine during our STEM fortnight. They were read the story “The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch” and were then given playdough and paper plates and asked to make some food for Mr Grindling’s lunch. They carried their lunches to the basket and pulley and they used the pulley system to transport the lunches to Mr Grindling in his lighthouse. The children then got to build a big tall lighthouse of their own.

We experimented, designed, built and measured. Ethan Maxwell’s Dad visited us and he explained how screw pumps can make water travel. The children were very excited to recognise some of the “famous” engineers in his presentation (Bob the Builder being one!). The children took part in a great wealth of experiences and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves – as did we!’
