The
school has a long established and well-earned reputation for
excellence in sport. The main team sports are hockey for girls
and rugby for boys. There is a full fixture list that caters
for pupils from upper primary through to Senior 6 and includes
hosted teams from overseas and tours of Europe and North America.
Achievement in athletics is outstanding with a number of
pupils past and present gaining medals at local, national
and international levels. Sports Day is one of the major events
in the school calendar, the spectacle of the House Marching
competition opening the event and allowing all pupils from
Primary 4 to Senior 6 to participate in a competitive but
team spirited way.
In addition there are extra curricular opportunities to participate
and gain skills in Cross-Country, Tennis, Cricket, Netball,
Basketball, Swimming, Scottish Country Dancing and Football.
Pupils are offered a varied and balanced sporting curriculum
during PE and Games time. Specialist teaching is provided
for all pupils from Primary 1 upwards and children are encouraged
to express themselves individually but also to acquire important
team skills. Sport plays a significant role in the House System
with several inter-house competitions in a variety of sporting
disciplines taking place throughout the year.
