S3-4

INTERMEDIATE 1 and 2: PERFORMING

Summary of Course Content
The course is divided into three main elements: Performing; Inventing and Listening.

The main emphasis of the course is on practical activities.  It is designed in such a way that, although it may be beneficial for pupils to have some ability on a musical instrument, it is not absolutely essential.  Pupils will be provided with a 30 minute individual music lesson each week in addition to the allocated class time.

  • Performing
All pupils are required to perform on two contrasting instruments.
  • Composing
Pupils will be taught various skills to allow them to invent their own short pieces of music through improvising, arranging and composing.
  • Listening
Throughout the course, pupils will listen to various types of music from 16th century to the present day (classical, pop, jazz, etc.).  Pupils are expected to acquire knowledge and understanding of the expressive possibilities of music and some knowledge of the techniques employed.
