Modern Studies is a new subject to many in S1 and combines aspects of many different disciplines.

Using ideas from Politics, Sociology and Economics, it tries to explain the complex nature of the world we live in now. The focus of the course is on enabling students to become independent in their analysis of society by questioning what goes on around them.

Topics in S1 include Rights and Responsibilities, The UK political system and the Mass Media.

In S2 students widen their focus to international issues, looking at international terrorism, the USA and completing their S2 course with a focus on the developing world.

The course provides a firm bedrock for study at Standard grade both in terms of content and skills development.
