INTERMEDIATE 2

Entry Level:
Standard Grade Mathematics at General level in both elements.

Summary of Course Content
The course is made up of three units:

Unit INT2/1: This unit involves - Percentages, Volume of Solids, Linear Relationships Algebraic Operations, Properties of a Circle.

Unit INT2/2: This unit involves - Trigonometry, Simultaneous Linear Equations, Graphs Charts and Tables, Statistics and Probability.

Unit INT2/3: This unit involves - Further Algebraic Operations, Quadratic Function, Further Trigonometry.

Assessment & Examinations
Each unit will be assessed internally by means of an end of unit test. There is also an external exam, which is used to determine the grade (A, B or C). The external exam will be split into two papers.

Paper 1 (45 minutes) will test mathematical skills without the use of a calculator.

Paper 2 (1½ hours) will test all topics.
A Scientific calculator will be required for this paper.

Pupils must pass all the unit tests and the external exam to gain a course award.

HIGHER

Entry Level:
Standard Grade Mathematics at Credit level, in both elements.

Summary of Course Content
The course is made up of three units.

Unit H1: This unit involves - Straight line Geometry, Trigonometry, Functions and Graphicacy, Differentiation, Recurrence Relations.

Unit H2: This unit involves - Polynomials, Quadratic Theory, Integration, Compound Angle Trigonometry, Circle

Unit H3: This unit involves - Vectors, Further Differentiation and Integration, Logarithmic and Exponential Function, Wave Function

Assessment & Examinations
Each unit will be assessed internally by means of an end of unit test. There is also an external exam, which is used to determine the grade (A, B or C). The external exam will be split into two papers.

Paper 1 (1 hour 10 minutes) will test mathematical skills without the use of a calculator.

Paper 2 (1½ hours) will test all topics. A TI-83 or TI-84 Graphics calculator will be required for this paper.

Pupils must pass all the unit tests and the external exam to gain a course award.
