INTERMEDIATE

The S3 course will complete the Intermediate 1 Level work started in S2 and will then follow a path towards sitting the external examination at Intermediate 2 Level in S4. Pupils in S4 who have consistently achieved Grade A will start the Progression to Higher Maths course as soon as the Intermediate 2 course is completed and consolidated.

Summary of Course Content

The course is made up of three units.

Unit1: Percentages, Volume of Solids, Linear Relationships, Algebraic Operations, Properties of the  
           Circle.

Unit 2: Trigonometry, Simultaneous Linear Equations, Graphs Charts and Tables, Statistics and
             Probability.

Unit 3: Further Algebraic Operations, Quadratic Function, Further Trigonometry.

Assessment and Examinations

There will be continuous assessment throughout the course with End of Topic Tests and End of Unit Tests and Non-calculator skills tested weekly.
The examination in S3 will follow the same pattern as the SQA external examination.

Paper 1 ( 45 mins) will test skills without the use of a calculator.
Paper 2 (1 Hour 30 Mins) will test all topics.

Work is graded A, B, C or D.
