The course is divided into units, as follows:
S3
Unit 1 Calculator, Integers, Brackets & Equations.
Unit 2 Money, Factors, Statistics.
Unit 3 Proportion & Variation, Pythagoras, TimeDistanceSpeed.
Unit 4 Circle, Trigonometry, Simultaneous Equations.
S4 Credit Course
Unit 1 Area & Volume, Money, Similarity.
Unit 2 Formulae, Equations & Inequations, Algebraic Fracitons.
Unit 3 Straight Line, Quadratic Equations, Surds and Indices.
Unit 4 Functions, Trig Graphs & Equations, Triangle Trig.
S4 General Course
Unit 1 Area and Volume, Money, Similarity.
Unit 2 Formulae, Equations and Inequations, Fractions.
Unit 3 Straight Line, Review Shape.
Unit 4 Review Number, Review Statistics.
Please Note – A scientific or graphics calculator is
necessary for this course. A TI-83 or TI 84 graphics calculator
will be required for Higher and is recommended for S4 credit
work.
Folio/Project Work
None required but some topics will be introduced by an Investigational
Approach and others will incorporate coursework tasks to show
real life situations.
Course Assessment
Progress is monitored by continuous assessment at the end
of each unit.
Examinations:
Formal examinations are given in May of S3 & in January
of S4.
There will be two papers at each level both testing the elements.
K.U. (Knowledge and Understanding) and
R.E. (Reasoning and Enquiry).
Paper 1: Mathematical content without the use of a calculator.
Paper 2: Mathematical content where a calculator is essential.
Pupils will sit examinations at two levels:
either Foundation/General or General/Credit.
