The course will examine several topics dealing with the Middle
Ages, looking at themes involving the concepts of “people
in conflict” and “people in time” in order
to give pupils an understanding of the effects of war on society
and contrasting lifestyles.
The main topics include:
• The Wars of
Independence
• Life in a castle/monastery
• Life in town/country
• The Black Death
• The Crusades
• Medieval Crime
and Punishment
These topics should help to prepare pupils for the course
in Senior 1, which looks at change in society during the age
of discovery. Pupils will be encouraged to make use of primary
historical documents and develop an understanding of historical
events in a chronological order. This will involve oral discussion,
artwork, drama and the use of ICT.
