Summary of Course Content
There are two Units:

  • Language
  • Extended Reading and Viewing

In the Language Unit you will study three themes.  These are:

  • Personal, Social and Cultural Issues (lifestyles, the generation gap, IT)
  • European issues (The E.U. countries where the language is spoken, immigration, education, unemployment, Higher Education, etc)
  • Environmental Issues  (energy sources & effects; urban expansion, disposal of waste etc)

In the extended Reading and Viewing Unit you will study a literary text and research a background topic of your choice, or study a film and additional texts.

Assessment & Examinations
NABs in Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.

Exam:
Speaking (50 marks) with external examiner (March)
Reading & Translation (50 marks)
Listening and Discursive Writing (70 marks)
Folio (30 marks)

Folio/Project Work:
The folio consists of two essays in English of 750 words each. One essay will be based on the literary text studied and the other will be on the area of personal study chosen by the candidate; e.g. a geographical study, an area of cultural interest, etc., or a second literary text..

You will have the opportunity to spend some time at our exchange school in Germany.

If you would like to continue your language study without doing the whole AH course, it is possible to study a free-standing Unit.
