As maps are the main tool of a Geographer, Remove pupils are taught the basis skills of map reading and interpretation starting with elementary maps, and progressing to O.S. maps and Atlas maps. While locating places on atlas maps pupils are encouraged to extend their general Geographical knowledge and spatial awareness. The assignments are varied and graded to encourage pupils with tasks at which they can succeed.

Geography in Senior 1 involves a topic-based approach within a European and World context. The themes relate to both the Physical and Human Environment, including the weather, settlement and farming. A range of learning and investigative skills is developed using resources such as maps, textbooks, photographs, measuring equipment and audio-visual material.
