Course Content
In the Standard Grade course there is a natural progression from the work covered in S1 and S2. The units studied in the next two years include Self, Home, Area, Friends, Leisure Interests and the Environment. You have already studied some of these and now you will look at them in greater depth and will learn to express your own opinions and ideas on these subjects. Speaking is developed through pairwork, talk and language laboratory tasks. Listening and Reading are also important and by the end of the course you will be able to understand French people talking in everyday situations and you will be able to read short newspaper articles, brochures and teenage magazines with the help of a dictionary. In Third Year writing skills are developed gradually as you work on expressing your own ideas and in Fourth Year you will learn to write at greater length and more accurately,

Folio/Project Work
A folio of written French tasks will be prepared in class.

Course Assessment
During S4 you will do a number of speaking assessments.
The standard you reach in these will decide your grade for Speaking at the end of the course. There is no final speaking exam. Listening and Reading are assessed by a formal examination in the summer term. You will sit these papers at two levels. You may use your dictionary in the Reading exams. Writing will be assessed from a folio of your work.
