Wellington School seeks to educate the whole child as preparation for life and wants to help foster involved, disciplined, highly creative and innovative learners. The way to achieve this kind of education is to ensure a balance that includes an active Arts culture and Arts education programme in the school. Drama plays a critical role in this.
Primary 7 have Drama every week. The course links to the themes of their classroom novels- Slavery, World War Two and Titanic. Pupils are also given the opportunity to explore Solo performance and Choral Speaking. The emphasis is on audience awareness and vocal projection.
In the Senior School, Drama is a fluid and flexible subject, encompassing Physical Theatre, Improvisation, Expressing, Characterisation, Use of Space, Reflecting, Performing and Vocal Work.
S1 and S2 are assessed following 5-14 National guidelines and it is anticipated that most pupils will attain Level F by the end of S2.
In S3 and S4, Drama is not formally assessed but is used as a springboard into the School’s annual Senior Show. Pupils explore elements of Stagecraft, Comedy, Tragedy, Musical Theatre and Dance.
