Classical Studies at this level has two main aims. It is important that pupils develop an awareness of the impact of Greece and Rome on their way of life as one of the main sources of their cultural heritage. They are also introduced to the methods of working which will be continued throughout their time in the Classics Department, bearing in mind that Latin is a compulsory subject in Senior 1. The emphasis is on logical arrangement of material, consideration of evidence, deduction from the evidence and sustained personal effort. In Primary 7 pupils study topics from the mythology, legends, history and culture of Ancient Greece, as well as having a little taste of the language itself.
