Through Art and Design pupils are given the confidence to express themselves. By developing an awareness of their own identity pupils communicate how they see the rich qualities of the world around them and within them.

The continuity of specialist Art and Design education from Primary 4 upward, and the numerous extra-curricular activities - Art Club, Young Arts Groups, school exhibitions and gallery visits, provide a source of pleasure and inspiration for pupils, parents and staff.

Art in Remove introduces pupils to the kind of techniques and thematic approach they will experience in the S1/S2 course.   It develops their understanding of the 'language' of line, tone, colour, shape, pattern, texture and form through a variety of two and three dimensional activities. A wide range of media and methods are explored in practical lessons, while critical skills are developed in a short written unit.

In Senior 1 pupils begin a two year course in Art & Design.    The course is designed to provide a wealth of diverse artistic experiences, with opportunities to create 2 & 3D Expressive work and explore a number of design and craft areas. Investigative drawing supports all these activities.    In addition, pupils study the related work of Artists and Designers. The department also delivers a Technological Studies course in S1. Pupils will learn how to use a digital camera and various computer techniques including graphic design software. They will also develop construction skills and be encouraged to discover the potential of different materials through creative thinking.
