Academic
excellence and effort is given a high priority and the school
is proud of its consistently excellent results in
public examinations.
We are committed to offering a broad and balanced course
of study in the true tradition of Scottish education.
In Remove (Primary 7), Senior 1 and Senior 2 pupils follow
a common course of study that introduces them to a wide range
of subjects and allows each individual to identify their particular
strengths. Remove pupils spend approximately one half of their
week with a core teacher and the rest of the time visiting
subject specialists.
All pupils in Senior 1 study Latin, this becoming optional
in senior 2. German is introduced as a second modern language
Senior 2. In third and fourth years pupils will study a maximum
of eight Standard Grade courses leading to SQA public examinations
at the end of the two years. All pupils study English, Mathematics,
a Modern Language, a Physical Science and a Social Science
together with three other subjects of their choice.
There is a considerable range of subjects on offer that is
reviewed by the school on an annual basis. The school offers
a wide range of courses from the Higher Still Programme to
pupils in Senior 5 and Senior 6, most pupils opting for four
or five Higher courses in Senior 5 and enhancing their qualifications
in Senior 6 through the study of subjects at Advanced Higher
level and/or additional Higher courses.
The school puts much effort into the preparation of applications
for university places. A lot of time, effort and support are
given
to individual students to help them find and secure the right
and best possible place within further education. While the
majority of our leavers apply and successfully gain places
within Scottish universities, a number of our pupils apply
to Oxford and Cambridge as well as to other English Universities.
