S6 CHARITY BACKING LEUKAEMIA RESEARCH (16/11/2009)
Fundraising for Leukaemia Research is already well under way at Wellington, and at Monday`s Assembly, Senior pupils were given an insight into the work of the charity.

The S6 Charity Group are also keen to raise awareness of charity events in school, especially the Craft Fair on Thursday 26th November in Carleton Turrets from 6 p.m.

Leukaemia Research is the only charity in the UK dedicated exclusively to researching blood cancers and disorders including leukaemia, Hodgkin’s and other lymphomas, and myeloma.

Anyone, at any age can be diagnosed with a blood cancer. 24,500 people in the UK are diagnosed every year. LRF are committed to giving every one of them the best chance of survival.

LRF`s scientists and doctors work in over fifty top research centres across the UK. They are seeking to improve diagnosis of blood disorders and treatments for patients, and to find a cure for blood cancers.

LRF supports patients, their families and friends by providing them a free information service including a range of over 40 publications.

LRF needs to raise more than £100 million over the next five years to sustain our investment. They receive no Government grants and our life-saving research depends entirely on voluntary donations.

Their passionate and determined approach to research is mirrored in our fundraising. Their family of supporters spreads across the UK and includes 140 voluntary branches.
