ROBOTICS GROUP READY TO ROLL (12/11/2009)
The Robotics Group met on Wednesday evening to finalise details for their competition entry.
Having built the course, the team is now busy considering the complex practicalities of designing and programming a robot able to perform a series of operations under very stringent controls.
This is new territory for the school but, despite the level of competition, they are certainly `up for it!`.
The FLL First Lego League 2009 is hosted by the School of Informatics, Edinburgh University. This year the challenge is SMART MOVE - Transforming Transportation
Can FIRST LEGO League teams transform the way we look at transportation? The key to the 2009 “Smart Move” Challenge is accessing people, places, goods and services in the safest, most efficient way possible. In this journey, teams will consider many modes of transportation beyond their daily routine and streamline their options by making smart moves!
FIRST LEGO League introduces younger students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. FLL teams, guided by their imaginations, discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society.
Students get to:
Design, build and program robots using LEGO technology
Apply real-world maths and science concepts
Research challenges facing today’s scientists
Learn critical thinking, team and presentation skills
Participate in tournaments and celebrations
What FLL teams accomplish is nothing short of amazing. It’s fun. It’s exciting. And the skills they learn will last a lifetime.
The Tournament on 8 December at Edinburgh University.
