HAPPY CAMPERS MAKE MOST OF THE GOOD WEATHER (18/09/2009)
The Bronze Duke of Edinburgh`s Award Groups enjoyed fine weather for their Training Expedition around Glen Trool.

Although the campsite was notorious for midges [surely not!] the wee beasties disappeared after about 8.00 p.m. once the temperature fell.

A cold, starry night was made much more bearable by having a bonfire.

Some 40 pupils in S3 (almost 80%!) signed up for The Award this year - and numbers seem to be ever-increasing. The Award gives pupils a chance to push themselves in a variety of contexts in both personal and team challenges. It is recognized internationally as a programme that gives real added value to an all-round education.

The Award at Wellington is characterised by a willingness to take on new initiatives (canoeing is proving popular as are expeditions to Norway) and a partnership between school staff (some having or seeking formal mountain leader qualifcations) and external instructors.
