EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE BY P5/6 RUGBY TEAM (14/09/2009)
Playing against Belmont House, the P6 team won 9-0. Four boys, three of them P5’s made their debuts for the team.
This was another good performance from the Wellington boys who had to defend, particularly against one strong player in the Belmont side. The Welly P6’s are still unbeaten having played three, won two and drawn one!
The P7 captain won the toss and elected to play down the hill in the first half against Belmont House. The first 10 minutes were closely contested until Paddy made a good run out to the left corner and came round to score under the posts. Jamie kicked the conversion. Just before half time, Aaron finished off some good ball handling to score a try on the right hand side. The half time score was 7-0, but the Wellington Team had to make numerous tackles to keep Belmont from scoring. In the second half it was going to be hard work playing up the hill, but again the Wellington defence held firm and the forwards began to ruck more effectively, staying on their feet.
Hamish made an excellent run on the right wing and should have scored in the corner. A short while later, from a penalty 20 metres out, paddy scored his second try and Jamie kicked his second conversion to make the final score 11-0 to Wellington.
This was a good team performance against a team with some strong forwards and fast backs. The P7 team have made an excellent start to the 2009/2010 season.
