ELECTROFISHING ON THE RIVER DOON (25/06/2009)
Wellington Primary 7 pupils have been working in partnership with Ayrshire Rivers Trust on an exciting educational project entitled ‘Salmon in the Classroom’.
A month after releasing the fry that had been hatched within school into the River Doon, the pupils returned to the river to further observe the salmon and other species of river life.
Using a technique known as electrofishing, Ayrshire Rivers Trust were able to demonstrate the healthy numbers of fish in the river, and allow pupils to observe and identify many different species.
Our picture shows fish being caught using this method.
