1ST XI CRICKET TEAM KEEP UP THEIR 100% RECORD (24/06/2009)
The 1st XI travelled to Glasgow on Saturday morning to play the High School of Glasgow’s 2nd XI.
Captain, Stuart Howie, won the toss and elected to field first.
Andrew Thomson, Ross Thorburn, Blayney Smith and Calum Ablett all took one wicket each, but Jacob Stafford bowled out 5 batsmen and with impressive figures of 5 for 23 he played a major part in restricting the High School team to 83 for 9 at the end of their 20 overs.
Christopher McKelvey hit 2 early 4’s to get the scoreboard ticking for Wellington’s innings, but the other opener, Donald Swinley, batted very well to score 20 runs before being caught. Calum Ablett steadied things batting at 7 and scored 17 not out and the 1st XI ended up winning their final game of the season by 2 wickets with 8 balls remaining.
This is the best ever season for the Wellington1st team winning all their games against Glasgow independent schools and also defeating the Former Pupils XI.
