STAR PROGRAMME FOR S5 PUPILS (25/09/2013)
The STAR (Student Training in Assessment and Recruitment) programme, which took place recently, is an opportunity offered to S5 pupils to gain experience in CV writing, applying for jobs and preparing for/undergoing an interview. Undertaking this extra-curricular activity provides pupils in S5 with an invaluable insight into the world of work and serves as excellent preparation for life in S6 and beyond.
The key learning objectives of this programme are:
• to highlight the importance of selling one’s self to the best of one’s ability;
• to prepare students for the competitive aspect of applying for jobs/university places;
• to emphasise the need for effective time management when making applications.
Pupils were invited to make an application for the post of “Team Leader”. The application process was conducted just as rigorously as it would for any other job. Each application was analysed by a panel of professional recruitment consultants and a short list for Group Assessment drawn up. Six candidates were then asked to attend a final interview later that same day:
The external panellists, Jim Turnbull and Kelly Mason, were highly impressed with candidate performance in all stages of the recruitment process.
The candidate chosen as the S.T.A.R. Programme Winner 2013 will be announced at assembly on Friday 25 October. On that day detailed feedback will been given to all pupils who entered the process and we hope that they will reflect upon their experiences and put them to good use in the years ahead.
A further website update will be given at that time.
Well done to all concerned and good luck to the girls who made it to final interview!
