There is no entrance test for these stages. Parents are
asked to make an appointment to view the school with their
child. If the child is already at another school parents are
asked to bring along the most recent report to the interview.
There is no fixed time for application and consideration will
be given at any time of year.
Parents and children visiting the school will meet with the
Head and then be shown round by the Assistant Head
Teacher. It is usually appropriate at this point to make a
date for the child to spend a day in a class with his/her
peers. If parents are unable to plan for this at this time,
they will be encouraged to telephone the school to make
an arrangement as soon as possible.
When a child is visiting school, they may wear their own
school uniform or “civvies” as their parents see fit. No
testing or exam will be set, but the pupils will be expected
to participate in class events and activities to the best of
his/her ability. When work is found to be too difficult, or
too easy, an alternative will be immediately sought, as the
child’s comfort and sense of well-being is important to us.
At the end of this visit, the teacher will complete a short
report, describing the pupil’s ability to work within the
parameters of the class. If there is any concern about
the child’s place in the peer group, another visit may be
arranged. Otherwise, a letter of offer may be anticipated.
The school works hard to achieve a feeling of family, and
this is promoted by all staff taking an interest in all pupils,
including those outwith their own department. Good
manners and smart appearance are expected.
Pupils at all stages in the school are encouraged to
participate or attend school events, even if not directly
involved. It is usual for S6 to assist at Infant parties and
events, and this mixing of the age groups should be
promoted wherever possible.
