P6 Burns Supper 2017
We like any excuse to celebrate the great Ayrshire bard, Robert Burns and P6 did so with aplomb last week.
The whole evening was run by the children – they performed, presented, ran the raffle and the ‘Heeds and Bahookie’ game. Mr Stovell, Mrs Docherty and Mrs Sheils were the judges and declared the following performers as winners:
– Marc McCann, Sarah Mason and Maxwell Wyllie (brass trio) playing Auld Lang Syne – 1st place
– Saad Omar reciting An address to Edinburgh – 2nd place
– Amy Scott reciting Tam O’Shanter, 3rd place
The children displayed their art work on the evening which was inspired by the work and technique of Irvine based artist Stephen Brown. The class even invited Mr Brown to the Burns Supper but unfortunately he was not able to make it.
The raffle was a much talked about event and the class took the procurement of prizes extremely seriously. They wrote to lots of local companies asking for Scottish themed prizes and the support from a number of businesses was overwhelming. Prizes included: golf lessons at Royal Troon (donated by Adam Rolfe); a £50 voucher for the Cook School (donated by Braehead Foods); Ayr Rugby Club hoodie, t-shirt and scarf (donated by Stephen Field); signed Eddie Reader CDs and a family pass to the Burns Centre. Numerous parents also donated prizes so many thanks for your generosity.
Well done to Marc, Sarah, Maxwell, Saad, Amy and all of P6 for putting on such a successful Burns Supper. Thank you to Head Boy, Cameron Reece for piping to a a very lively Drumley Hall and also to Mrs Lomas and Mrs Lamont for taking on serving duty.
