Dyslexia Awareness Week 2018

We are currently in the middle of Dyslexia Awareness Week and Mrs Lees, Head of Support for Learning, would like to draw your attention to the informative posters around school and the many fantastic inspirational stories on the Dyslexia Scotland website.

There a number of books about Dyslexia in the support base which pupils are welcome to borrow any time. Titles such as The Dyslexic Advantage: Unlocking the Hidden Potential of the Dyslexic Brain, Creative Successful Dyslexic and The Illustrated Guide to Dyslexia & Its Amazing People will inspire and inform so what are you waiting for?!

We would also like to congratulate Rachel Miller in S5 who was asked to speak as a keynote speaker at the Dyslexia Scotland Education Conference last month. This is a huge achievement and it reflects the fantastic work that Rachel does in her role as a Young Ambassador for Dyslexia Scotland. She spoke incredibly eloquently and received excellent feedback from many professionals who attended the event.

Rachel said: ‘I was thrilled to be asked to be keynote speaker and was delighted to share my positive message with 250 teachers. Dyslexia has given me so many opportunities and I embrace my role as a Dyslexia Scotland Young Ambassador. My aim is to educate teachers, empower children and change people’s thoughts on dyslexia. If anyone has the opportunity to take up a role like this then my advice would be to ‘grab it’, you can make a difference.’
